Obituary of Samuel Delaney Ellison

IN LOVING MEMORY OF SAMUEL DELANEY ELLISON Samuel Delaney Ellison returned to the universe on June 14, 2020. Delaney was born on May 28, 1951, to Jacob and Beatrice Ellison. Delaney attended Benton High School and later graduated in 1969. From there he attended the University of Michigan where he was a phenomenal student, he later transferred to UCLA where here received his bachelor’s degree in criminal science. A little while later Delaney made the brave decision to join the Marines, where he was an MP, he spent four years protecting and serving or country and was honorably discharged. In the mid-eighties Delaney went to work for the Michigan Department of Corrections in Jackson, MI, he held several jobs, but Delaney had and fire and passion for helping people. Delaney’s passion led him to the C.A.R.E.S program which required lots of traveling on the I94 corridor, where he became a highly favored and successful outreach worker. Samuel Delaney Ellison is preceded in death by his parents Jacob M. Ellison and Beatrice Ellison. Delaney is survived by his significant other Jackie Moore, Son Daniel (Senethia) Cook of Benton Harbor, MI, five sisters Shirley Campbell of Oklahoma City, Veronica Ellison of Memphis Tennessee, Judy Campbell of Grand Rapids, MI, Evelyn Thompson and Stacey Phifer of Benton Harbor, MI, one brother Jeffery Harper, three grandchildren whom he adored Danielle Ellaine Cook of Indianapolis, IN, Deanna D. Special thanks to Creed Stegall, Patricia West, Yeshwua Ben Israel, and Thomas Bradley for being helpful during our time of sorrow. Our Deepest Fear Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness That most frightens us. We ask ourselves Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small Does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking So that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, As children do. We were born to make manifest The glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; It's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, Our presence automatically liberates others.
