Obituary of Fredrico Renee Porter, Sr

Bro. Fredrico Renee Porter Sr. went home to be with Lord on Friday, June 18, 2021, at Ascension Borgess Hospital of Kalamazoo, MI. He was born on May 12, 1956, at the Community Hospital in Battle Creek, MI to James E. Porter and Net Lee Love, known to everyone as “Big Mama.” He was preceded in death by his parents James E. Porter and Net Lee Love, his aunt, Ada Spenser, his brother Bernard “Poncho” Harris, sisters Joyce (Dee) Smith, Margaret (Frank Jr.) Robinson-Hampton and late first wife Michelle T. Porter. At the tender age of 19, Fredrico Porter Sr. dedicated his life to the Lord, and then recommitted his life to the Lord in October of 2016. From that date, his faith did not waiver. In the late 1970’s, he was a pillar of The Church of God at 140 W. South St. Jackson, MI, pastored by the late Pastor Frank Hampton Jr., where he wrote numerous songs including, but not limited to “If I Had My Life to Live Over and Lord Teach Us How to Pray.” He genuinely loved the Lord and was very instrumental in worship. In the past, he was known to ignite the congregation in rejoicing in the Lord by shouting and jumping extremely high during church service. Fredrico and his dear sister the late Margaret Robinson-Hampton both loved the Lord, and she was known to rejoice by running laps around the aisles of the church. In order to spread the Truth, he traveled throughout the United States and the world including Panama and California. He also provided ministry to the men at the Haven of Rest Shelter in Battle Creek, MI. At the age of eight, Fredrico Porter, Sr. traveled to Detroit, MI to reside with his loving Aunt Ada and Uncle Richard Spenser, until the age of 13. In his youth, he truly enjoyed boxing throughout the State of Michigan and won many trophies and was undefeated in his Toughman Boxing Competitions. In 1975, Fredrico obtained his G.E.D., and he attended college, where he obtained paralegal training. Through his work as a paralegal, he was able to help countless people, including saints, family, friends, and community members. He was a hardworking man and held many jobs and positions including, Dana Incorporated, Sears Automotive, Tire Service of Jackson, Marley Precision, Dairy Farm, Security, Musashi Auto Parts-Michigan and his last position was for the City of Battle Creek at the Kellogg Arena and Post Cereal. On July 30, 2011, he married Tammie D. Swinegan of Battle Creek, MI. They were childhood sweethearts, and their families grew up on the same street, and shared many happy memories together. In July, they were to celebrate 10 years of marriage. Fredrico Porter Sr. was very active in the community and worked tirelessly to help improve the lives of others. He enjoyed many activities and was very athletic in his youth including boxing and kickboxing. He also had a nice voice and enjoyed singing; he was a singer in the Lue Wilson Band. Fredrico loved to eat and to drink gallons of milk, and he loved his cookies, cereal, chips, and powdered donuts. He had a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh. Fredrico loved his family history and was inquisitive of genealogy, pictures and the passing on of family traditions. Bro. Fredrico Porter Sr. stayed true and went on to be with the Lord on Friday, June 18, 2021.
