Obituary of Guadalupe Gonzalez

Guadalupe “Lupe” Gonzalez was a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother “Lita”, sister, and friend. She left this world with family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer on April 14, 2022, at the age of 77. Lupe was born to Guadalupe Moreno Gonzalez and Julia Godina Gonzalez on January 21, 1945, in Lockhart, Texas. After graduating from St. Joseph high school in Saginaw, Michigan as valedictorian of her class, she went on to pursue and earn her degree as a Registered Nurse. She served many years as a charge nurse in the psychiatric unit at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo. Lupe married the love of her life, Gerardo, on her birthday January 21, 1967. Together they had 4 children: Gerardo Jr., Jose, Julie “Mari” and Jaime. Lupe’s faith in God was her ultimate priority. She was a living example of that to anyone she crossed paths with. She loved to attend dances every weekend with her husband as her forever dance partner. She was the director of the WMUK Hispanic radio station through WMU, played a large role in the Hispanic American Counsel, and enjoyed volunteering for church youth groups. Being in the presence of her family is what brought Lupe the greatest joy. Lupe is survived by her husband, Gerardo; their children: Gerardo Gonzalez Jr., Jose Gonzalez (Lianne), Julie “Mari” Gonzalez, Jaime Gonzalez (Nicole); 15 grandchildren: Jose (Alexis), Gerardo, Gabriel, Angelo, Vanessa, Emmanuel, Fabian, Freddie, Amaya, Brianna, Jaime Jr., Annaeise, Roman, Malina, and Evelyn; 9 great grandchildren: Brayden, Zeke, Alexis, Emerson, Maximus, Maisley, Mia, Avery, and Maribella; 5 siblings: Stephena Gonzalez, Clara Gonzalez, Maria Saucedo (Jose), Steve Gonzalez (Margie), John Gonzalez; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Guadalupe Moreno Gonzalez, and mother Julia Godina Gonzalez.
